Give a Talking Bible - Annia's Story
SKU: 1000NT0001

November, 2007

Dear Friends of the Bible,

“Until last year I only heard God’s Word on Sundays, but now I hear it every day.” That’s what Annia said about the distribution of Talking Bibles in Cologna that has changed everything for her.

Going on with her excited voice, Annia continues to explain her discovery and gives an application from listening to the Bible. “I think spending this time listening to the Talking Bible is just like Jesus in the Temple as a boy, busy about the Father’s work".

Though she has listened through the New Testament several times, it seldom leaves her side. Reaching for another branch full of peanuts, Annia said “I mostly just sit here, pick the peanuts and listen to the Word of God.”

Nimbly and quickly her fingers work up and down the new branch as she pulls peanuts off and then gently places the shelled nuts into a waiting bowl. No peanuts are left on the branches. None miss the bowl. None fall to the ground.

Annia Mabote is small, quiet and blind. She does not look like a spiritual giant. But she is. God is doing a great work in and through her.

Living from the work of picking peanuts from the branches people bring to her in the village gives her an opportunity to play the Talking Bible all day. Villagers who bring their peanuts to Annia will stay to hear the Word of God quietly playing in the Matswa language of Xitshwa from her Talking Bible.

Annia has been blind since 1980, but even so, Annia said she wanted to know about God’s Word but thought she would never be able to study it.

Though she goes through whole books of the Bible in an afternoon Annia said she has several favorite portions of Scripture that she looks forward to hearing when they come up again.

“I have recently learned that I am a child of God.

With excitement Annia continued by saying “I’m a daughter of God and must be busy with my Father’s work.”

Though blind, Annia is like many people in her village and across Africa that cannot read. Just as a written Bible could not help Annia, it would not help most people in Cologna and similar rural villages.

Because of this she says “The Talking Bible has been a big help to us; we cannot read the Bible for ourselves.” Annia cannot see, but she certainly is not blinded to what hearing the Word of God has done in her life and that of her village.

“This is good, because it is sharing the gospel and instructing people. They all stop to listen to my Talking Bible when they are passing by or when bringing me more peanut bush branches. For that I am grateful.”

Thank you on Annia's behalf and on behalf of the many others who now have a Bible they can listen to. Thank you for your generous partnership with this ministry.

Please help people like Annia to get a Bible they can use, a Talking Bible by giving a $72.00 tax deductable donation. Your donation will be used to place one Talking Bible in the home of someone like Annia who will play it for many to hear.

Sincerely,
